Ramon Sosa never thought that it would end like this.
A few years ago the 50-year-old boxing coach and father of three was happily married to a beautiful younger woman. He had everything.
“Nothing was too much trouble for Lulu (his wife) who was a personal trainer,” Sosa explained. “She would give me manicures, pedicures and foot rubs. She would rub oils onto my back and treat me to massages. It was paradise and my friends were jealous.”
And then it crumbled.
His business stopped bringing in as much money and his wife’s happiness dwindled. Instead of just divorcing him and moving on like a healthy person, Maria “LuLu” Sosa turned to murder. The scheming woman hatched a plot to have her husband killed.
“Unwittingly, she had approached a guy called Gustavo*, to see if he could organize the hit, without realizing we were friends,” Sosa explained.
“I knew him, because I’d coached him. He’d been in trouble in the past, but had turned his life around… At first, when he called and said he needed to see me, because someone ‘wanted to kill me,’ I thought he was joking.”
Sosa got lucky. His wife may have decided to murder him herself if she couldn’t find the right hitman. Her lack of sophistication saved Sosa’s life.
“Then we devised a plan, for him to wear a wire and tape her offering money to have me killed, before turning the evidence over to the cops… After recording his meeting with her, where Gustavo pretended to know two hitmen, we took the tape to the police, who were shocked – but came up with a great plan,” Sosa said.
Police asked the shell-shocked husband to play dead so they could show pictures of his “corpse” to his wife.
When she saw the images, she laughed.
“When I first met Lulu, I certainly didn’t expect our relationship to end like that,” Sosa said.
