The NFL is ruining our culture. For some reason, professional players are treated as though their opinions have more weight than those uttered by the rest of us. Colin Kaepernick probably does have a lot to say about football, but why should anyone care about his opinion on police brutality?
The poisonous culture infecting the NFL is percolating down to the most vulnerable members of society. Every single player on a youth football team took a knee during the national anthem last Sunday. Litlle kids who almost certainly who have no real experience with police suddenly felt the urge to make a political statement. Why?
“One of the kids asked me if I saw (people) protesting and rioting in St. Louis. I said yes; I said, ‘Do you know why they are doing it?’” Cahokia football coach Orlando Gooden said.
“Because black people are getting killed and nobody’s going to jail,” the child answered.

The oldest player on Gooden’s team is 8-years-old. The entire roster is comprised of children. Yet, Gooden still felt comfortable asking them to imbibe his political ideals.
“One of the kids asked, ‘Can we do that?’ I said, ‘As long as we know why we’re doing it, I don’t have a problem with any of it,’” explained Gooden.
I’d be willing to bet a lot of money most of those kids don’t really know why they took a knee. Disrespecting the national anthem is your right as a citizen, but the action is meaningless if you’re simply copying everybody else.
“As long as I have support of my parents and team, I’m perfectly fine, and I’m covered under the First Amendment to peacefully protest and assemble…”
Kaepernick’s protest hasn’t achieved much of anything. All he’s done is turn himself into a pariah and impart noxious ideas to kids.
