Fox News Host Judge Jeanine Pirro was clocked zooming around upstate New York at 119 mph. When pulled over by a state trooper, Pirro explained that she was rushing to see her ill, elderly mother.
Judge Pirro is 66, and her mother is 89.
“I had been driving for hours to visit my ailing 89-year-old mom and didn’t realize how fast I was driving,” Pirro said. “I believe in the rule of law and I will pay the consequences.”
The judge was ticketed for speeding and must appear in court next January.
“I say law and order and truth and justice are the foundations of this Republican,” Pirro said less than two days before her run-in with state troopers.
“I’m tired of the powerful and the Clintons being above the law — law each and every one of us must follow.”
Those weren’t meaningless words. Pirro accepted her punishment and didn’t try to call in any favors. The DMV notes that “a conviction of going more than 40 mph above the speed limit could result in 11 points on a person’s driver’s license. When a driver reaches 11 points, his or her license is automatically suspended.”
Judge Pirro was desperate to see her mom, but speeding through busy streets only served to endanger herself and others on the road. Speeding isn’t illegal because the government is a buzzkill; it costs people their lives every day.
State police declined to say if Pirro was traveling with a passenger, or what type of vehicle she was driving.
