President Trump’s cooperative new approach to immigration has at least one fan- Jeb Bush. The former Florida governor sent an ecstatic tweet Tuesday after Trump held a bipartisan meeting at the White House.

Republicans came to the meeting to the secure greater funding for border security while the Democrats showed up to fight for the Dreamers. Referring to the proposed compromise as a “bill of love,” Trump urged the two sides to work together.
It’s a marked shift from his previous attitude. According to Breitbart: “During an April 2014 interview… Trump slammed Bush for remarks that illegal immigration is an ‘act of love.’ Trump called Bush’s remarks ‘pretty ridiculous’ and ‘dangerous.’”
Tension over how to deal with the Dreamers is eroding people’s trust in the president. Barack Obama handed out visas like candy, is Trump starting to go down the same path? A lot of conservatives feel as though the Dreamers don’t deserve residency, that their tenuous legal status should be revoked.
“This should be a bill of love, truly. It should be a bill of love, and we can do that,” Trump said during Tuesday’s meeting. “I really do believe Democrat and Republican, the people sitting in this room, really want to get something done.”
Trump’s willingness to protect the Dreamers surprised a lot of liberals. They’re so used to fighting with him they don’t know what to do with themselves when they find him agreeing with them.
Trump, however, seems to be hoping for the best.
“I am very much reliant on the people in this room,” Trump said. “I have great confidence … if they come to me with things I’m not in love with, I’m going to do it, because I respect them.”
