The House Intelligence Committee published its final report on the Russia investigation Friday. The Republican-majority panel found absolutely no evidence for collusion, although members admit that the Trump campaign displayed “poor judgment.”
We learned that the house was going to clear Trump last month. Now, we know why exactly why they did so. Their investigation, summarised in a 243-page document, didn’t find evidence to support the Democrats’ spurious claims.
“We were honored. It was a great report – no collusion which I knew anyway, no coordination, no nothing,” President Trump said from the Oval Office.
“The report was very powerful, very strong, there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian people… As I’ve said many times. I’ve always said there was no collusion. But I’ve also said there has been nobody tougher on Russia than me.”
You might think that the Russia investigation can wind down now. Unfortunately, that’s not how politics work. The investigation was never based on logic to begin with, so it’s not going to stop just because Congress determined there’s no evidence.
Democrats are furious. They wanted to twist to the House investigation to suit their needs.
“Throughout the investigation, Committee Republicans chose not to seriously investigate — or even see, when in plain sight — evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, instead adopting the role of defense counsel for key investigation witnesses,” Rep. Adam Schiff, the committee’s senior Democrat, complained bitterly.
“In fact… The Trump campaign and Administration’s efforts to deny, conceal and, when discovered, misrepresent what took place in these interactions with the Russians is powerful evidence of a consciousness of wrongdoing.”
Schiff is pleased that special prosecutor Robert Mueller’s probe is still chugging along. Apparently, Democrats are willing to waste endless amounts of time chasing a lie. What would it take for them to accept that Trump won the 2016 election fair and square?
The Senate is also pursuing its own investigation. Democrats have more sway in the Senate, so it’s possible that their probe will produce different results. President Trump is innocent but the left is intent on misconstruing his motives.
