Democrats can’t help themselves; the fight is over yet they’re still bickering amongst themselves. As soon as the government shutdown ended liberal Congressmen began tearing into each other.
The deal worked out with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell simply postpones DACA negotiations rather than settling anything.
“If Republicans said we are ending same-sex marriage, but we promise Democrats a vote later; or we approve of oil drilling in every national park, but you’ll have a vote later — do you think the Democrats would say yes?” raged Rep. Luis Gutiérrez.
“This shows me that when it comes to immigrants, Latinos and their families, Democrats are still not willing to go to the mat to allow people in my community to live in our country legally.”
Democrats made a huge stink about protecting the Dreamers, but they caved when they realized that keeping the government up and running was more important. It would have seriously damaged the party if its leadership had refused to compromise.
Don’t tell that to the left, however. Most liberals are pissed that the Dreamers are still vulnerable.
“It’s official: Chuck Schumer is the worst negotiator in Washington — even worse than Trump,” Credo Political Director Murshed Zaheed said in a statement. “Any plan to protect Dreamers that relies on the word of serial liars like Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan or Donald Trump is doomed to fail.”
President Trump as indicated a willingness to revive DACA and shield the Dreamers, but only if Democrats are willing to work with him on border security. If liberals were less fractious a deal would probably already be in place.
“One of the challenges we have as a body, several members who are part of this negotiating group … famously had promises from Leader McConnell that certain things would happen,” Sen. Christopher Coons whined.
The next round of Dreamer negotiations will be even more intense.
