Liberals are going to hate this. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has signed a bill allowing children under to 10 to go hunting. The child must be accompanied by an adult.
Wisconsin is a rural state. Its people enjoy hunting and they do it often. Prohibiting kids from going on hunts with their parents is a knee-jerk reaction to gun violence. Hunting is a strong part of the state’s culture, families have been teaching their children to handle guns for generations.
“It’s not the government’s job to tell parents that,” state Rep. Joel Kleefisch said of the old restrictions.
The Second Amendment is under attack. Washington Democrats want to limit people’s access to guns. They seem to believe that ridding the populace of their means of defense will somehow prevent violent killers from attacking crowds.
It won’t.
Wisconsin’s children won’t be injured because they’re allowed to hunt sooner than they were previously.
“In Wisconsin, hunters still need to be at least 14 and have passed a safety class to hunt alone, but the mentoring provision allows kids younger than that and who haven’t passed safety classes to join in. The mentor must be at least 18 and must stay within arm’s reach of their charge,” the New York Post reports.
The new law also allows adults hunting with children to carry their own weapons. Previously, an adult and a child could only have one weapon between them.
“How can your full attention be on the child? It can’t,” hunting safety instructor Ray Anderson said of mentors looking to hunt. “That’s how accidents happen.”
