It’s really inexplicable how fervently some folks want the US to keep its borders open to Mexico. Apparently, it’s not enough for the US to accept tens of millions of immigrants from Mexico and other Latin American countries, we must continue keeping the floodgates open until the US becomes neo-Aztlan, just like La Raza dreams of.
National sovereignty is obviously a huge reason to fight the Open Borders crowd, but another hugely important factor is the fact that Mexico is a hopelessly corrupt, gang-run nation that poses a direct threat to American citizens. The violence and drugs that spill across our border are immense, and this week, supporters of the border wall have even more ammunition for their arguments, as violence has gotten so bad that schools are being shut down.
As reported at the New York Post, thanks to the insane level of gang violence in the Mexican state of Guerrero, around 100 schools have been closed near the town of Chilapa.
Surrounding the city of Chilapa is an area where opium poppy and other drug planting is prevalent. As a result, gang and drug-related killings have plagued the region for years. But this week, the threats coming from various gangs were simply too dangerous. Parents and teachers alike reported a deluge of violent threats and plans for extortion, which resulted in the decision to close so many schools.
Now the children will have to suffer the consequences by missing out on their best ticket out of the hellhole–education.
The state government has increased security operations in the region with the help of state police and armed forces, and the plan is to reopen some schools in the more rural areas in the days ahead.
This is the sad reality of the situation in many parts of Mexico. There’s so much corruption and violence that you’d think it’s Afghanistan, not a neighbor to the most prosperous nation on the planet. For our own safety, we desperately need a wall. More than an impediment, it would be a symbol of America’s resolve, which is just as if not more important than it actually preventing people from invading. The US needs to look after its own people first, not kowtow to the whims and wishes of foreign governments and their collaborators in the US.
