While politics are highly important and the issues of the day worthy of getting angry about, political opponents are still human. It can be hard to empathize with ones ideological opponents at times, especially considering how contentious certain issues are and where we are as a country.
But even though it can be difficult, it’s something we still have to do. Related to this is a shocking incident involving a person that’s not well liked by conservatives for his incredibly strained relationship with the truth, CNN’s Don Lemon.
As reported in Page Six, Wednesday was a tragic day for Don and his family, as his older sister passed away in a freak accident.
The 58-year-old Leisa Lemon Grimes was enjoying a day of fishing when she fell into a neighborhood pond in Livingston Parish, Louisiana and drowned.
“Thanks everyone for your words of sympathy. Please keep my family in your prayers,” the CNN host tweeted on Thursday. “Leisa was my oldest sister & partner in crime growing up. Always had my back. #RIPbigSis.”
“The Lemon/Grimes family would like to thank everyone for their condolences and prayers at this time. Our family has suffered the tragic loss of L’Tanya ‘Leisa’ Lemon Grimes,” the family said in a statement. “We are leaning on each other for strength at this time. We appreciate privacy as we grieve the loss of our loved one.”
It a terrible tragedy to lose someone at such an age and in such a random way. In times like these, politics should be put aside so long as the those personally affected don’t inject politics into the incident.
There’s plenty of time to argue about policy and whatnot, but for the time being, folks should respect Don and his family’s privacy while they grieve the loss of their loved one.
