The advent of reality shows has dramatically changed the television industry over the last 2 decades. From shows about pawn shops to gator hunting in the bayou, all the way to survival shows that span the globe, there’s been no shortage of them.
Their emergence and popularity created numerous stars over the years, some of which have since faded and others that are still carrying on. In light of some unfortunate news about his wife’s health, one of the most infamous of them all has decided to quit the job that made him and his wife very famous and rich.
As reported at TooFab, Duane “Dog” Chapman, known for his role in the hit show “Dog: The Bounty Hunter,” will be stepping away from the profession amidst his wife’s diagnosis of throat cancer.
Earlier this year, Beth and Duane Chapman learned Beth had throat cancer, a diagnosis that shocked and devastated the family. In September, Beth underwent a 13-hour surgery to have a Stage II tumor removed and in the aftermath of that operation, the couple decided to drop the curtain on their days as bounty hunters.
“I’m lucky to be sharing Thanksgiving with my family, and I’m lucky to be here for these holidays,” Beth told TooFab. “You take it day by day and you don’t try to take on more than you can handle. I’ve tried to cut stress seriously out of my diet. It really does bad things to you. My voice is not strong all the time, it comes and goes sometimes and sometimes it just stops.”
“It was a very scary situation,” she continued. “It was hard to wake up every day and know you still have it, it’s still in your body, cancer is alive and well inside me and that wasn’t a good place to be. I had a hard time sleeping, I would wake up and just look at him sleeping thinking, ‘How is he ever going to make it without me? How will he find his car keys.’ He doesn’t think about those things.”
The Chapman’s television show has been a staple on A&E for many years, and fans have had a close and personal look into their family through many difficult tragedies. Which is why the channel will be airing a 2-hour special on November 27 called ‘s “Dog and Beth: Fight of Their Lives,” which will chronicle Beth’s diagnosis, surgery, and recovery since.
It’s an unfortunate way to close an epic reality show journey, but hopefully, it will be able to provide some solace for someone out there going to through similar trials.
