Democrats are already pining for Al Franken. The handsy Senator hasn’t even left office yet and people are calling for him to remain.
“I hope they have enough guts … and enough conscience and enough heart to say, ‘Al, we made a mistake asking prematurely for you to leave,’” said. Sen. Joe Manchin.
Franken begrudgingly agreed to retire after a flurry of women went public with their claims that he groped them. Multiple accusers say that Franken used photo ops with fans and constituents to gratify his perverse desires, fondling women as they posed next to him.
Still, Manchin wants him to stick around.
“I definitely think he should not resign… I think he should submit himself … and go through this complete process of an extended ethics review instead,” he said.
Franken never admitted guilt, but he did offer his accusers a sheepish apology. His resignation was vague enough that he could revoke it without too much trouble, but what kind of message would that send?
A few liberals recognize that Franken’s political career is over.
“Schumer and the vast majority of the caucus like Sen. Franken and will miss him… but did what they felt was best and stand by it,” an aide for Sen. Chuck Schumer said.
If Franken decides to remain in office, it will highlight the left’s hypocrisy. While the battle between accused pervert Roy Moore and Doug Jones was being waged in Alabama, the party elites insisted that Franken should remove himself.
Now that Moore has been defeated, they’re willing to ignore Franken’s accusers.
