President Trump responded immediately after Monday morning’s devastating railway accident. An Amtrak train in Washington state tumbled off of the tracks and plunged to the ground. Multiple people died and several dozens were injured.
Trump used the opportunity to tout his infrastructure plans.
“The train accident that just occured [sic] in DuPont, WA shows more than ever why our soon to be submitted infrastructure plan must be approved quickly,” the president tweeted. “Seven trillion dollars spent in the Middle East while our roads bridges, tunnels, railways (and more) crumble! Not for long!”
The Obama administration failed to make much headway in improving country’s infrastructure. It’s not clear if his lack of action was due to incompetence or inability, but whatever the case, the country suffered as a result.
Obama pumped trillions of dollars into the Middle East, but he failed to accomplish anything. Trump has been in office for less than a year and he’s already done more to weaken ISIS than Obama did in two terms. Trump’s slight about the “seven trillion dollars” spent by his predecessor hits uncomfortably close to reality.
Monday’s Amtrak train derailment stunned the country. “
“It was the first day of the new $181 million high-speed Cascade service, which rerouted trains down 14 miles of updated track. The new bypass between Tacoma and DuPont is straighter, meaning that trains can go faster than they did on the winding old line,” reports the Daily Mail.
Amtrak officials acknowledged the crash on Twitter but failed to provide a cause.
“We are aware of an incident involving Amtrak train 501… We will update with additional details as they become available,” the company wrote.
