Goodbye Al Franken. The king of inappropriate photo ops is resigning from the Senate Jan. 2.
Franken was toppled from the Democratic elite after a string of women accused him of feeling them up while they posed for pictures. The horde demanded his resignation, and he complied.
Democrats are still irritated that Franken exposed himself. A few are even calling for him to “un-resign.”
“The most hypocritical thing I’ve ever seen done to a human being — and then have enough guts to sit on the floor, watch him give his speech, and go over and hug him? That’s hypocrisy at the highest level I’ve ever seen in my life. Made me sick,” Sen. Joe Manchin complained after Franken’s resignation speech. The same Washington colleagues that had pressured him to step down expressed a lot of emotions when it actually happened.
Democrats who wish Franken would stick around argue that his crimes weren’t severe enough to merit the punishment they’re receiving. He’s accused of fondling a woman’s breasts while she was unconscious, yet the left still wants to portray Franken as a feminist hero.
“I have stood for due process throughout my years as a prosecutor and in chairing the Judiciary Committee,” Sen. Patrick Leahy said. “I regret not doing that this time. The Ethics Committee should have been allowed to investigate and make its recommendation.”
Leahy originally called for Franken to resign before changing his mind when he saw it was actually happening.
Franken’s team is certain that he’s leaving the Senate in January.
