Another Trump official is leaving Washington. Secretary of Health and Human Services Thomas Price submitted his resignation Friday.
I’m surprised he made it this long. Taxpayers on both sides of the aisle were enraged after they learned that he was splashing out on private planes. Price’s ritzy travel arrangements cost taxpayers over $1 million.
“Price had taken 26 flights on charter plans since May… In June, Price traveled on a $17,760 roundtrip charter from Washington to Nashville, Tennessee… He spent less than six hours there, making two official appearances and eating lunch with his son,” CNBC reports.
Reading about his excesses makes me feel sick. Americans are struggling to consistently put food on the table and send their kids college yet Price felt comfortable sucking up government funds for frivolous, personal needs.
“Secretary of Health and Human Services Thomas Price offered his resignation earlier today and the President accepted,” the White House said.
If Price hadn’t resigned, he probably would have been fired. The uproar surrounding his spending habits was unlikely to die while he remained in office.
A Republican engaging in such selfish, wasteful behavior is almost more offensive than a Democrat doing it. At least liberals admit that they have no problem increasing government funding. Price pretended to be a fiscal conservative.
