Victory! The original travel ban is dead, replaced by a new set of restrictions.
The Democrats’ attempt to undermine the Trump administration is failing on all fronts. Nobody cares about their made-up arguments against the travel ban. Americans crave security, and that’s exactly what President Trump is providing.
The new, revised ban targets eight countries. Venezuela, Chad, and North Korea have been added to the list while Sudan has been removed. Trump’s first executive order was excoriated by the left because it supposedly discriminated against Muslims. Blah, blah, Trump’s a racist, blah, blah. It’s a stupid theory but that hasn’t stopped liberals from espousing it anyway.
“We cannot afford to continue the failed policies of the past, which present an unacceptable danger to our country,” Trump said in the White House statement. “My highest obligation is to ensure the safety and security of the American people, and in issuing this new travel order, I am fulfilling that sacred obligation.”
Unlike the first ban, the new restrictions are indefinite. Affected countries won’t be removed the list until it’s safe to do so.
“The restrictions announced are tough and tailored, and they send a message to foreign governments that they must work with us to enhance security,” Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke said.
Of course, liberals are already rallying their forces for a counterattack. The American Civil Liberties Union released a damning statement almost immediately after the new restrictions were announced.
