Disgraced leftist Senator Al Franken has finally announced the date of his departure from Congress, after previously vowing to step down amidst several allegations of sexual harassment. Thanks to his feet-dragging, speculation over whether or not the “comedian” was actually going to follow through had grown very strong, but it appears he’ll be slinking off into exile.
Now we once again have a vacant and valuable seat in the Senate, so the question is “Who’s going to fill it?” Well, in what can only be described as the Left’s worst nightmare, one of the most vilified and hated conservative women in recent memory may run for sexual harasser Al Franken’s Senate seat.
As reported at the New York Post, former Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachman is mulling a run for Senate now that such a tasty opportunity has arisen. The Left has loved to hate the deeply conservative and Christian Bachman, taking jabs at her faith and intelligence during her years in Congress.
The speculation was sparked thanks to comments she made to televangelist Jim Bakker, as she said she’d been praying about the decision since Franken announced his retirement last month.
“I’ve had people contact me and urge me to run for that Senate seat,” Bachmann said during Bakker’s TV show on Dec. 27. “Am I being called to this now? I don’t know.”
Minnesota’s governor chose Democratic Lt. Gov. Tina Smith to immediately replace Franken in the Senate, and she’ll be sworn in on Wednesday. Smith also plans to run for the seat in a November special election, and even if she’s a very short-term incumbent, it’s always difficult running for an occupied seat.
Bachman previously spent four terms as representative of Minnesota’s most conservative district and decided back in 2014 not to seek re-election, thus ending her career. But now a fantastic opportunity has presented itself, one that not even she can pass up.
Franken previously won his seat by a ridiculously narrow margin, so the race is sure to be a contentious one. The Republicans would do well to snatch the seat, as they just lost what should have been a guaranteed win in Alabama. Needless to say, if she does run, we’ll get to see the Left’s hypocrisy and misogyny on full display.
