Al Franken joined the ranks of the unemployed Tuesday. His resignation officially took effect and he managed to bow out of the Senate without completely embarrassing himself. He still refuses to take responsibility for his sexual abuses, however.
He’s yet to issue a real, full-throated apology.
He’s a ruined man, but he can at least hang onto the shreds of his self-respect. Note the word “shreds.” He couldn’t resist putting up a few feeble defenses before he agreed to leave office.
“I, of all people, am aware that there is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for Senate with the full support of his party,” Franken whined last month.
Moore was defeated and President Trump is innocent. Franken, however, had no choice but to admit his guilt.
“Serving in the United States Senate has been the great honor of my life… I know in my heart that nothing I have done as a senator, nothing has brought dishonor on this institution. I am confident that the ethics committee would agree,” Franken said during one of his last speeches in the Senate.
“Nevertheless, today I am announcing that in the coming weeks I will be resigning as a member of the United States Senate.”
Washington is a little cleaner than it was before. Franken wasn’t the worst monster hiding among the left, but his victims still deserved to be heard.
