Fox News has been the leading cable news network for quite some time. However, ever since the 2016 presidential campaign kicked off, the network’s lead over its left-wing competitors has started to deteriorate. Not only that, some big names have been either been forced out our left for “greener pastures.”
Megyn Kelly, thought to be Bill O’Reilly’s replacement after he was forced out, took over a primetime slot only to jump ship for a supposedly better opportunity and more money at NBC. However, her start at the network has been disastrous and embarrassing, and this morning, the trend continued.
As reported at Decider, during her new morning show, Megyn Kelly Today, Kelly was talking to NBC legend Tom Brokaw when she cut him off mid sentence as he tried to convince viewers that the NRA should be fought.
While Brokaw’s appeal certainly was juvenile, Kelly’s response to it is sure to bring criticism. She was talking with Brokaw and other “experts” on a panel in what was dubbed a “candid conversation” about the massacre in Las Vegas, so it should have been expected that a leftist like Brokaw would trot out the standard left-wing talking points.
The discussion was a town hall setting, where audience members would ask a panelist a question and they’d respond. One man asked Brokaw about the constant violence in the news and when it becomes harmful to our children.
Brokaw took the opportunity to rant about the NRA saying, “We are where we are because of the power of people who wanted these kinds of guns, and the NRA managed to organize them and get them as a political force in America… The NRA has a lot of money, obviously, and if you’re running against the NRA, you’re portrayed as a traitor against America… We’re a long way away from that second amendment in which we said that a well regulated militia is important to our country.”
As Brokaw began talking about the second amendment, Kelly interrupted him, saying “Got it. Gotta leave it at that, Tom.” Brokaw continued speaking, but the camera quickly cut away to Kelly, who told viewers that “we’re up against a hard break.” The way she handled the cut-off was beyond embarrassing, and she’s receiving a lot of hate from the media.
While her handling of the discussion may have been poor, it seems impossible for leftists to do anything other than appeal to emotion and trot out the same tired talking points. It’s always NRA this or NRA that, and claims that the Second Amendment is outdated or misinterpreted.
Facts and logic don’t stand in the way of leftists when talking about guns, as they’ll ignore every statistic and primary document proving their claims demonstrably false and instead use appeals to emotion to win over people. Unfortunately, such a method is highly effective, as people don’t want to think rationally and calmly about the subject.
In the days and weeks to come, the gun control debate will rage on, as leftists use the tragedy to further their agenda.
