Bill O’Reilly is on the offensive. During an interview with the Today Show’s Matt Lauer, the former Fox News host blasted his critics and insisted on his innocence. O’Reilly’s four-decade career came to a humiliating end after it was revealed that multiple women had filed sexual harassment complaints against him.
Fox News paid O’Reilly’s accusers a whopping $13 million to keep quiet.
“Nobody is a perfect person but I can go to sleep at night very well knowing that I never mistreated anyone on my watch in 42 years. This was a political and financial hit job,” O’Reilly complained to Lauer.
Because his accusers accepted settlement deals, none of them are allowed to speak publicly about their cases. O’Reilly claims that he has no interest in suing the women.
“You can’t win in those lawsuits. If you’re a public figure, you can’t win them. I could do that but that but the collateral damage of these lawsuits – the press frenzy, every allegation is a conviction,” he explained.
“Those lawsuits involved many other people, not just me. I’m not going to speculate on intent or why people did what they did. But you don’t have this story correct…”
Fox News suffered a major dip in ratings after O’Reilly was pulled from the air. Viewers are torn. Is he guilty? Or is he an innocent man that’ s been very badly used?
