The Michigan Senate hopes to revamp the state’s gun laws. The congressmen believe that if more civilians were armed during their day to day lives, tragedies like the First Baptist shooting wouldn’t occur.
According to the New York Post: “Under Michigan law, it is illegal for the nearly 618,000 people with concealed weapon permits to carry in designated gun-free zones — schools, day cares, sports arenas, large concert halls, taverns, places of worship, hospitals, many college dorms or classrooms, and casinos… The legislation would… allow concealed carry in the areas previously dubbed gun-free zones.”
Gun control activists are vehemently opposed to the plan. The thought of people roaming around schools with concealed weapons is deeply disturbing. However, the slaughter at Sandy Hook Elementary demonstrates that students need extra protection. Would those children have died if there had been an armed adult on the premises?
“Anybody who wants to exercise their right to protect themselves and have a firearm should be able to do that where they need to,” said Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof of West Olive.
Devin Kelley, the deranged maniac who shot up a Texas church last weekend, was severely impeded by a brave man with a gun. In the middle of his rampage hero Stephen Willeford rushed at him, firing a rifle and screaming at the top of his lungs.
It worked. Kelley got scared and tried to escape. More lives would probably have been lost if it weren’t for Willeford.
Still, liberals are hesitant to believe that mass shootings can be prevented by an armed populace.
