Americans woke up Monday to a gruesome reality. A crazed gunman perpetrated the worst mass shooting in our history Sunday night, attacking a crowd of attendees at a country music festival. The White House reacted almost immediately.
President Trump expressed his condolences via Twitter before hosting a brief press conference. Political squabbles stop mattering in the aftermath of a disaster. Trump is our president, the leader of the free world and the head of America. He’s the person that Americans want to hear from when things get tough.
Vice President Mike Pence also chimed in. “To victims, families & loved ones affected by this senseless violence in Las Vegas, Karen & I are praying for you & offering our love [t]he hearts & prayers of the American people are with you. You have our condolences and sympathies,” he wrote on Twitter.
The rest of Congress was quick to add their support as well. Conservatives and liberals alike denounced the horrifying the violence.
“Horrified and heartbroken by the awful tragedy in Las Vegas last night,” wrote House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. “Praying for those lost, wounded & waiting for news from loved ones.”
Trump has announced that he will personally visit the stricken city in a few days.
