The Republicans can’t seem to accomplish anything. President Trump’s masterful leadership is guiding the helm, Washington is completely in their control, and yet their agenda is stagnating.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Tuesday that he was scrapping the planned Obamacare repeal vote. Once again, Republicans are disappointing their constituents. Healthcare is an issue that affects every single American. Congress’ inability to provide us with an affordable option has a high cost- human lives.
“We don’t have the votes,” Sen. Bill Cassidy, one of the healthcare bill’s sponsors, said Tuesday. “We made the decision since we don’t have the votes that we’ll postpone that vote.”
The bill’s other sponsor, Sen. Lindsay Graham added: “We’re going to get there… We’re going to fulfill our promise.”
Graham’s optimism seems empty. There’s no reason to suspect that Republicans will get their act together anytime soon. The party has the best chance that it’s had in decades to reinvent itself and the establishment clowns still refuse to change.
The bill’s opponents were the usual culprits. Democrat-sympathizer Sen. John McCain and Maine moderate Sen. Susan Collins both objected to the bill’s Medicaid cuts. If healthcare is going to pass conservatives will have to work with the left. They squandered their chance to pass the repeal by a simple majority.
