Donald Trump’s cabinet and administration is shaping up to be one of the most change inducing governments in history. And this most recent pick is making every Democrat’s head spin.
This morning Trump has always announced retired General Mike Flynn for National Security Advisor, which was awesome enough, but now his pick for Attorney General is a giant middle finger aimed directly at the liberals.
Awesome! Meet your new AG, Senator Jeff Sessions.
President-elect Donald Trump has certainly ruffled some liberal feathers listen morning with his Attorney General pick announcement, which has even surprised many Republicans.
Trump wants Republican Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions to serve as attorney general of the United States.
The senator and lawyer is one of Trump’s closest advisers and one of the president-elect’s earliest backers, earning him his pick of positions in the new administration. Trump was considering appointing him secretary of defense, but has now selected him for the attorney general position, reports The New York Times.
Sessions is a former prosecutor who has represented Alabama in the Senate since 1996. He serves on the Judiciary Committee, and is known particularly for his hard-line views on immigration and trade, and a bipartisan proposal to cut mandatory minimum prison sentences.
But wasn’t Ted Cruz in the running for AG? This was according to unclear reports earlier this week. That turned out to be only speculation and even though Cruz was on the short list, he was not offered the gig.
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, who endorsed Trump very late in the race after challenging him in the primaries, was also on the short list for the position. A Trump aide called him Thursday night to tell him the job would go to Sessions, a source familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. Trump had praised Sessions earlier Thursday in a statement, saying he is “unbelievably impressed” with his work as attorney general in Alabama.
So is Sessions a good pick? Well why don’t you look at what Ronald Regan thought of him.
Former President Ronald Reagan nominated Sessions for a federal judgeship in 1986, but the Republican-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee rejected his nomination because of accusations of racist comments and actions made before the committee.
Yup. Great pick! Looks like President-Elect knows exactly what he’s doing.
