The investigation into the Stephen Paddock, the man responsible for the worst mass shooting in American history, is just beginning. The hotel room he used as a sniper perch contained an arsenal of weapons and ammunition, but it’s what investigators found in his home and car that’s even more shocking.
As reported at the New York Post, authorities in Mesquite, Nevada, the hometown of the gunmen, have begun searching through Paddock’s home and past. Nineteen guns were found, on top of the 23 found in his hotel room. Even more disturbing is that several pounds of chemicals, ammonium nitrate and tannerite, both of which can be used to make explosives, were found in his home and car. The former being the chemical used by Timothy McVeigh in the 1995 OKC bombing.
Ammonium nitrate is a fertilizer that’s rich in nitrogen. It’s relatively easy to buy and easy to store, and poses little risk if ignition unless deliberately ignited. Mixing it with other chemicals can create a deadly combination. Terror groups around the world have used it for decades in their bomb-making, from Al Qaeda to the IRA.
While the means by which he carried out the attack have been discovered, the motive remains unclear. What drove a man to commit such a heinous crime after living a life on the right side of the law? This is the question that everyone wants an answer to.
Not only to better understand what happened, but unfortunately, so political points can be scored. We live in a time where attacks like this are used to smear others and manipulate the emotions of the masses so our rights can further be eroded. It’s beyond disgusting. But that’s just how the Left operates, devoid of conscience.
