Disaster was averted at Six Flags over the weekend when a young girl flung out of a gondola ride was caught by a crowd of onlookers.
It was a normal evening at the amusement park when suddenly the air became filled with the sound of screams. Horrified onlookers rushed toward the sound, where they found a 15-year-old girl dangling 25 feet in the air as she hung to the ride’s safety bar.
“I said: ‘It’s ‘OK! It’s OK to let go, I’ll catch you, honey,'” a witness told the Associated Press.
“I couldn’t let that little girl die. No one wants to put himself underneath a body like that, but I couldn’t stand by and watch.”
While the girl helplessly clutched the safety bar a large crowd of able-bodied people swarmed underneath, ready to catch her when she fell. She tumbled into the arms of the waiting crowd and walked away nearly unscathed. She’s currently recuperating from minor injuries.
Sometimes, all you need is a little help. A few good people saved a young girl’s life and prevented a horrible accident from blossoming into a tragedy.
