Rumors swirled Sunday that Colin Kaepernick was finally willing to be reasonable.
Those rumors were false.
The ex-NFL player’s girlfriend took to Twitter to assure followers that Kaepernick has no intention of standing during the national anthem if he gets signed onto a new team.
“The reports that Colin will stand for the anthem are completely false! He has never discussed this with anyone,” Nessa Diab wrote.
The rumors began after CBS NFL insider Jason La Canfora hinted that Kaepernick would be willing to drop his protest if he could get signed. After Diab’s denial, La Canfora quickly jumped on Twitter himself and tried to defend himself.
“Wanted to clarify one thing…Standing for Anthem wasn’t something that I spoke to Colin about sat. I relayed what had been reported about him standing in the future… Reports about @Kaepernick7 standing for anthem had not been refuted. However, I can’t say if they are true or not. Colin and I didn’t discuss,” La Canfora wrote.
Now that so many players are following Kaepernick’s example, he probably would keep kneeling. He threw a fit and it turned into an international movement. Foreign players, oddly, have been caught kneeling as well. To some, Kaepernick is now a hero.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick said when he began his protest.
“To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
