It’s only been a few days since the tragic church shooting in Texas, but the left-wing push in Congress for more gun control is officially underway. The leftist clowns aren’t looking just for background check expansion or a ban on bump stocks, no, they’re going for it all this time.
Their goal is a ban on assault rifles altogether. You know, those scary looking guns that are nothing but a typical semi-automatic rifle with a coat of paint and miscellaneous attachments. The move is being led by the Diane Feinstein and Chuck Schumer, both of which have never seen a gun they didn’t want to grab.
As reported at the New York Post, about two dozen leftists introduced a bill on Wednesday that would ban the sale of military-style assault weapons and bump stock devices like the one used in the Las Vegas massacre, saying it “will begin removing the weapons of war on our streets.”
“We’re introducing an updated assault weapons ban for one reason: so that after every mass shooting with a military-style assault weapon, the American people will know that a tool to reduce these massacres is sitting in the Senate, ready for a debate and a vote,” said a statement released by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif).
The legislation calls for a ban on the “sale, manufacture, transfer and importation of 205 military-style assault weapons by name,” but allows owners to keep their existing weapons.
The bill also proposes to ban “bump-fire stocks and other devices that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire at fully automatic rates.”
Democrats are trying to pin the blame on Republicans for the recent shootings, saying that their refusal to do anything about assault rifles is leading to more mass shootings. Which is typical for the Left in the aftermath of such tragedies. Once again, they’re trying to capitalize on the propaganda they’re spreading in the days since the shooting, hoping they can convince folks to give away more of their rights.
The Democrats’ legislation also calls for a ban of assault weapons that take a “detachable ammunition magazine and has a pistol grip, a forward grip, a barrel shroud, a threaded barrel or a folding or telescoping stock.”
What’s amazing about the Left’s gun-grabbing and specific disdain for assault rifles is that facts prove they’re not a problem at all. Yes, they’re used in crimes like the one Sunday, but when you actually look at the numbers, you realize these gun control pushes aren’t about minimizing crime but disarming the public.
A cursory look at the FBI crime database and you’ll find that each year those killed by rifles of ALL kinds, whether bolt action or super scary AR-15’s, amounts to less than those killed by blunt objects, fists/feet, and knifes each. Meaning that these shootings are what account for most of those numbers in the rifle category. Unfortunate and terrible yes, but not an epidemic like it’s made out to be by the Left.
And another point to remember when liberals deceptively talk about “gun violence” is that they deliberately term it like that so they can present numbers that look especially bad. When they throw out those killed by “gun violence” that includes suicides, which account for about two-thirds of whatever number they present. A more accurate measure would be “gun murders,” but that number doesn’t look nearly as ominous as one multiple times larger.
Also, comparing between countries isn’t as easy as making a 1:1 comparison. The way European nations track their crimes are quite different, oftentimes intentionally deceptive to hide their true crime rate. This is especially true when it comes to guns, as they’ve been practically outlawed on the continent and the leftist governments are desperate to ensure it looks like banning them is having the positive effect they promised.
For example, in Great Britain, if no arrest/prosecution is made in a murder, then that murder is not counted in the homicide rate. How convenient for their crime charts. If the US were to count their crime this way, our charts would be drastically different.
For example: In 2012, the US murder rate was 4.7 per 100,000, a total of 14,827. Arrests amounted to only 7,133. Using only people who were arrested (not just convicted) would lower the US murder rate to 2.26 per 100,000.
It’s easy to twist numbers to make one look better, which is a tactic utilized by many European leftists.
But the reality is that while the number of “gun deaths” may have gone down in these places, it doesn’t mean the overall murder rate or crime rate has dropped. Just that that column in the chart is less. Usually, violent crime significantly rises as a result, since now criminals can be sure that the honest folks they’re preying on won’t be able to defend against themselves.
But hey, what matters to leftists above all isn’t the safety of the populace, just taking away our guns and justifying it by fixating on a single number in a single column of statistics, while ignoring the effects their policies have on all the others.
Just remember that left-wing gun grabbing isn’t justified. No statistic backs up their claims or desire to punish the 99 percent of law-abiding citizens for the crimes of the 1 percent.
