Sunday’s tragic church shooting rattled the country. We still haven’t healed from Stephen Paddock’s Vegas rampage, and already we’re being inflicted with fresh wounds.
While Paddock’s motives remain unclear, President Trump believes he understands what motivated Devin Kelley, the 26-year-old who opened fire on a small town Texas church Sunday.
President Trump shared his thoughts with reporters on Sunday.
“I think that mental health is your problem here. This was a very – based on preliminary reports – very deranged individual,” Trump said.
“A lot of problems over a long period of time. We have a lot of mental health problems in our country, as do other countries…”
Reporters tried to get the president to talk about gun control, but he didn’t take the bait.
“But this isn’t a guns situation. I mean, we could go into it, but it’s a little bit soon to go into it… But this is a mental health problem at the highest level. It’s a very, very sad event. These are great people and a very, very sad event,” Trump said.
Liberals want to use the tragedy to promote their agenda. They want to stomp on the Second Amendment and deny law-abiding citizens from having guns. No law would have prevented yesterday’s massacre, however. Kelley, who previously received a dishonorable discharge from the military, was prohibited from owning a fireman.
“I also want to take a moment to continue sending our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences to the victims of the horrific assault on a church in a beautiful area – so sad – Sutherland Springs, Texas,” he said.
“Such a beautiful, wonderful area with incredible people. Who would ever think a thing like this could happen? ”
